First Alert Forecast: Upper-level disturbance to increase the chance of heavy rainfall over Hawaii Island

1+ week, 5+ day ago (271+ words) HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An upper-level low-pressure system is currently positioned to the south of the island chain. This system is currently pulling moisture up from the south, creating the upper-level cloud cover over the eastern half of the state this evening. This upper-level disturbance could also create some heavy rainfall over the eastern half of the state on Tuesday and Wednesday. Weather models are starting to agree that a bulk of the heavy rainfall will be offshore, but a few pockets of heavy rainfall could impact Hawaii Island and windward Maui. The best chance for heavy rainfall will be Tuesday evening into Wednesday. As the disturbance weakens on Wednesday, some of the moisture associated with the system could get tied up in the trades. This will increase windward showers through Wednesday and Thursday. Some long-range models are indicating that another round…...

Hawaii Island shaken by magnitude 4.6 earthquake

3+ day, 23+ hour ago (244+ words) VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK (HawaiiNewsNow) - No damages or injuries have been reported, but some residents and visitors were woken up by shaking following Kilauea's latest eruptive episode. A magnitude 4.6 earthquake rattled the Island of Hawaii late Tuesday night, the U.S. Geological Survey's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reported. There is no tsunami threat or warning for the state after the quake struck the south flank of Kilauea. HVO officials said the event showed no apparent impact on either Mauna Loa or Kilauea. The quake occurred at 11:49 p.m. HST on November 25, 2025, about 9 miles south-southeast of Fern Forest. It originated roughly 3 miles below sea level. The earthquake occurred about 10 minutes after the end of episode 37 lava fountaining at Kilauea, but HVO noted that the timing does not appear to indicate a direct connection to the eruption. Most earthquakes in the region are caused by movement of Kilauea's…...

3+ week, 4+ day ago (187+ words) LAHAINA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Twenty-four dancers from Lahaina have the opportunity of a lifetime, but need your help to make it happen. Dancers from K&C Cheer and Dance Academy of Lahaina were selected to showcase their talents in a parade at Disneyland. They will be the only team representing Hawaii at the All-Star Spirit Extravaganza parade on Disneyland's Main Street on March 7, 2026. Funds raised will offset the cost of airfare, hotel accommodations, performance wear, and more. The dance academy owner says this is an opportunity to showcase the resilience young athletes and Lahaina have shown since the devastating wildfires. Many of the dancers' families are just moving back to Lahaina or beginning to rebuild, and the academy wants everyone to have the…...
